PERLITE CANADA ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF 
PATRICK BARRIAULT TO THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR
OF THE COMPANY

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Perlite Canada Inc. (the "company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick Barriault to the position of director of the company. Mr. Barriault replaces Mr. Patrick Martel whose mandate as director ended on April 11, 2008.

Since January 2007, Patrick Barriault is a partner with Barriault Hebert, Chartered Accountants inc. Before that, Patrick Barriault worked at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, a chartered accountant's office, as a tax consultant from 2005 to 2007 as well as an auditor from 1998 to 2005.

Therefore, the Board of Directors of the company is composed of the following directors: Richard Barabé, Chairman of the Board, Martin Joyal, Louis-Marie Demers and Patrick Barriault.

Messrs Louis-Marie Demers and Patrick Barriault are independent directors within the meaning of the rules and policies adopted by Canadian securities regulators. Richard Barabé and Martin Joyal are not considered independent given that they are members of the management of the company.

Patrick Barriault will act as president of the Audit Committee, which will comprise also Louis-Marie Demers and Martin Joyal. The Audit Committee is therefore composed of a majority of independent directors.

Perlite Canada Inc. specializes in the transformation, distribution and sale of Perlite and Vermiculite, minerals used in the horticultural and industrial sectors.

The common shares of Perlite Canada Inc. trade on the TSX Venture Exchange.
